Due Date Extension

Posted on Thursday, December 29, 2011

The IRS has extended the due date for certain tax-exempt organizations. Organizations that file Form 990, 990-EZ, 990-PF or Form 1120-POL that are due (either original or first extended due date) on January 17, 2012 or February 15, 2012 have been extended to March 30, 2012. The IRS’s e-file system that processes tax-exempt returns will be off-line in January and February, which led to the extension. The extension does not apply to those organizations required to file Form 990-N.

Below is chart showing the normal filing dates for the 990 series of forms. Organizations specifically affected by the extension are those with year ends of August and September. Those organizations with year ends of May or June may also be affected if they have filed extensions.
